Failure! Attempt to purchase denied!
First leap into buying digital art lands juuuuust a bit short
OK. I tried. I was on OpenSea.io and attempted to purchase this artwork:
I really like it. … It’s art created by an algorithm. A unique combination/arrangement of circles. Much more on algorithm-created art later. (But, for now, check out heveyart on Instagram).
But the story is I couldn’t buy it easily. OpenSea wanted me to connect to a digital wallet. No problem! I was prepared with a common wallet, and I knew I could add funds from my bank! Ready!
As you can guess, I ran into a problem. The service connecting my digital wallet to my bank had a problem with my phone number (not being international). My phone number is not international?
What? First of all, I love having four parties involved in one transaction … it seems logical. (Sarcasm font). The four: Market: (OpenSea); Digital Wallet: (X); Transfer Service (Y), and my Bank (Z).
Second, “My phone number is not international”? That’s a series of words I understand but not in that order. Like, Your pig baths in an algae space station.
That leads to questions: Can I make my phone number international? Do I need a new number? Is that why Nigerian princes no longer call me?
So, I didn’t buy the art.
24 hours and a new digital wallet later, I am ready to try again. Wish me luck!
I’ll have more later this week on the advantages of the old banking system for the digital art frontier.
